Bullard Cheerleader Bravely Shares Her Story In Court

Fresno Courthouse

Fresno, CA (October 7, 2019) – Today, attorney Aida Macedo, represented a brave 16-year old

girl who faced harassment by Fresno Unified School District (FUSD) trustee Terry Slatic

in a civil restraining order hearing. Aida Macedo said, “Our justice system is here to protect

the most vulnerable. My client’s bravery in having the courage to seek legal protection from

harassment by a FUSD trustee should be applauded by the Fresno community. A 16-year old

should not carry the burden of standing up to a grown man’s abuse of power.”

When a school environment experiences incidents of blackface and racist slurs, every member in our community should be alarmed. At Bullard High School, those incidents were not isolated and bring up a painful history in Fresno of deeply rooted systemic racism. Our client, a child, was not the one who made racial slurs. She was not the one who wore blackface. Yet, she is the one who has been harassed by an adult man who holds a position of power and has wielded that power to intimidate children.
